The Content Of Each Circle

We are currently exploring the shape of this network in a series of concentric circles, each with their own discrete remit and set of responsibilities (see diagram below).  The purpose behind this type of ministry design is to ensure that the church (even in its embryonic state of being a launch team) has the focus and remains at the centre of the action.

The content to each of these concentric circles of support may have some overlap, but we are proposing they include the following people, for these specific purposes and for a certain duration.

Launch Team

Members: Planter/wife; other families; sent members from other churches
Purpose: Everything to do with the plant
Duration: Meeting weekly until Core Team who coordinate the life of the new fledgling church are identified.

Steering Group

Members: Planter; member of launch team; experienced practitioners who can provide input and also be first responders to ministry design of launch team
Purpose: To offer support in resourcing, critiquing and peer-to-peer coaching.
Duration: Meeting roughly monthly as long as such ‘in-depth’ support is necessary.

Advisory Board

Members: no more than 5-8 people (including planter & wife, one member of launch team [if established], at least one other woman [preferably including a ministers wife], an senior minister from outside immediate planting context [preferably retired] and another member of an ICM church who understands church planting in the city.
Purpose: This council of reference/advisory panel should act as a spiritual and planning sounding board and meet no more than 6 times a year.
Duration: It will have a shelf life as long as needed and may even extend well into the life of the church plant.

ACE - Episcopal Oversight/Crosslinks

Members: Bishop; Director of Crosslinks; Director of ICM
Purpose: Provide overall cover, authorisation, structures of accountability, future proofing. Duration: As long as the ministry exists.
