Confirming Their Faith

Traditionally it is around the celebration of Easter that new followers of Jesus were baptised. In some instances such baptisms were the result of three years of discipleship and catechising in the church.

Therefore in an attempt to acknowledge tradition. Christ Church North Dublin will be celebrating a service where some of its younger members will be confirming their faith this Sunday. This is particularly important on a number of levels for the church.

It’s particularly important because Christ Church North Dublin is one of our newest church plants. Church plants are often criticised as being ‘break-aways’ or even schismatic. But our churches want to do nothing of the sort. Christ Church North Dublin stands in continuity with the heritage of Anglican evangelicalism, and is delighted to be able to mark this milestone in the lives of brave young believers. The simple fact that in CCND this milestone will not involve a bishop is no indication whatsoever of their desire to refuse episcopal oversight. It is simply that this has been denied. This is a shame, but the church family will be invited to spur one another one in godliness and grace.

However it is also significant for the individuals who will be confirming their faith. Growing up in a changing and often challenging world is difficult even for the most mature of believers. For those who are relatively young in years, and have a faith in keeping with their maturity, this can be even more exacting. This is why Sunday 19th March will be so significant for them. In the face of immediate and church family, and also before their friends, they will be confessing their dependence on God’s grace, their desire to fear Jesus as Saviour and Lord, and to follow the Spirit’s leading to deny themselves, take up their cross and walk in ways that please their Heavenly Father.

Please pray for them as they do this. Pray for Christ Church North Dublin, that it will be built up and strengthened. Pray for proper episcopal oversight and above all praise our Almighty God for his continuing work in the lives of his people.
