Hearts of Flesh: Praying for Transformation in Iran’s Dark Hour
In a time of fear, oppression, and unrest, we lift our voices to the God who changes hearts and brings light into the darkest places.
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
— Ezekiel 36:26 (NIV)
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, supporters, and faithful partners,
In these painful and uncertain days, we are deeply grateful for your steadfast prayers and ongoing support. As we witness the unfolding events in Iran and Israel, we are reminded that no power on earth is beyond the reach of God’s transforming grace. Even in the midst of turmoil, we believe the Lord is moving—changing hearts of stone into hearts of flesh.
On Tuesday, June 24, Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire. Yet tragically, missile attacks have continued despite the agreement. Based on past experience, there are real concerns that the Iranian government may not fully honour its commitments, and harmful actions may persist behind the scenes. The people of Iran are now more anxious than ever. Many had hoped this conflict would bring about the fall of the regime and the dawn of a free Iran. Instead, the regime—like a wounded and dangerous snake—has intensified its crackdown, arresting and imprisoning those who dare to speak out.
This is an especially difficult time for God’s people inside the country. Believers who are arrested often face false charges of espionage and can be sentenced to long prison terms or even death in military courts. Severe internet disruptions have further isolated many families.
Iranians living abroad also carry a heavy burden. Many anxiously wait for days or even weeks without any news from their families back home. The heartbreak is profound. Parents don’t know if their children are safe. Children worry endlessly for their ageing parents. For the Iranian diaspora, every moment feels suspended between hope and fear. They may live in freedom, but their hearts remain bound to those suffering back home—making this a time of deep emotional and spiritual anguish.
As believers, we are called not only to pray, but also to use this difficult season to share the true hope found in Christ. In the midst of fear and uncertainty, we can speak words of life and peace to those around us. Here in Ireland, we continue to trust the Lord and boldly share His hope. May the Lord bless these efforts, drawing many to Himself, and may the Holy Spirit comfort all who are hurting. May our faith shine brightly in the darkness, pointing others to the lasting freedom and salvation that Jesus alone can bring.
We ask you, dear friends, to continue standing with us in prayer:
That true and lasting peace will be established in Iran.
That God will soften the hearts of the nation’s leaders—turning hearts of stone into hearts of flesh.
That the internet will be fully restored, reconnecting families inside and outside Iran.
That the Holy Spirit will comfort those mourning the loss of loved ones.
That believers inside Iran will remain strong, courageous, and unwavering in their faith.
That Iranians living abroad will find peace amid uncertainty and strength as they support their loved ones from afar.
That believers everywhere will boldly share the hope of Christ with those searching for peace in the midst of chaos.
That the people of both Iran and Israel would recognise their deep need for God.
And most of all, may every knee bow and every tongue confess, in every corner of Iran and Israel, that Jesus Christ is Lord—to the glory of God the Father. Amen.As we pray together, may we live as people of hope, trusting that the Lord is at work—changing hearts, bringing peace, and drawing all nations to Himself.
In Christ’s service,
