Prayer News March-May
From the 1st-3rd March, fifty people from City Church will be heading off on their annual weekend away. This is a great time to grow together as a church family as we study God’s word together and enjoy an extended time with one another. Please pray for Mark South who will be leading us through the book of Jonah. Pray for us as we focus on what it means to be obedient to God’s calls to mission both individually and as a church.
Sunday 3rd March, David is speaking at St Mark's Portadown
Monday 4th March David is addressing the staff and relay team of CUI on ‘Understanding Transgenderism in the light of the Gospel’.
We are in the closing weeks of a ‘Christianity Explored’ course here in Immanuel. Pray for those in attendance to grasp the truth of the gospel and to follow Jesus. Many attending Immanuel are new to the Bible. We are constantly engaging with people who have had very little understanding of Jesus previously. There are great opportunities. Pray for new life among us and for a deepening of conviction in us all.
‘Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that confess his name’ Hebrews 13:15
St Patrick's Day
Praise God for using Patrick to bring the gospel to the Irish people. Pray for the outreach event from the ICM building planned for this day following an earlier church service (17th March is Sunday this year). Immanuel church will offer free refreshments and face-painting, while also distributing leaflets about Patrick and free gospels. Pray that locals and tourists may have time for discussion, that they may read the literature and be caused to think again with open hearts about the good news which Patrick shared.
Sunday 17th March, David is speaking at Lambeg Parish Church, Lisburn
Pray for Davood & Jenny as they step back from the Iranian ministry in Belfast in March, to focus on the work with Iranians in the South of Ireland. Pray for those Iranian men who have been trained up in Belfast to continue the Iranian ministry there and for all the Iranians to come to terms with Davood leaving. Pray that the Lord would teach them, encourage them and help them to mature in the faith and continue to be united and help new Iranians arriving. Please pray for the ministry in Dublin as we pray and plan to grow the ministry for the future. As many Iranians celebrated their New Year on 21st March, pray that the coming year would be a time of growing to know the Lord Jesus more and more.
Study of God's Word
Praise God for the successful live-streaming of Biblical Theology lectures to over 20 participants in Dublin in February, an initiative of Gafcon Ireland, and that many were encouraged by grasping more about how the whole Bible reveals God's Kingdom. Pray that many in Ireland will be encouraged to read and study God's word for themselves, and that through group Bible studies, one-to-one Bible studies and personal Bible reading, many will be built up in faith and equipped to share the Good News with many more people in Ireland.
Sunday 7th April, David is speaking at Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church, Bangor
Sutton Evangelistic Bible Studies (“Super Sundays”)
David and Honor Martin have begun a small evangelistic Bible study in their home for families who have a loose or no affiliation to any local church. They have been meeting two or three times a month since October. Thank God for bringing families together like this and pray that His word will do His work in their hearts, leading them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. This is a very small work. It also seems that any progress is very slow. However they are thankful for the start and would love you to join with them in praying for perseverance in this new ministry.
City Church and Immanuel Church are hosting Good Friday services; please pray for City Church as they make a particular effort to invite friends and family to their service. Pray that this Easter, many in Ireland would see beyond chocolate Easter eggs and rejoice in the hope of eternal life, possible because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As students begin to look towards exams, pray that they would prioritise reading scripture, prayer and meeting with church family.
New ICM mission partners/church planters
Join us in praising God for two new pioneer Mission Partners and their families (Rev. Cameron Jones and his wife Alex; Rev. Ivan De Lima Goncalves and his wife Adina and daughter Thandeka). They are in the planning stages of joining us in ICM. We are prayerful that they will be able to begin evangelising new church gatherings into existence in September 2019. This is a big step for them and for everyone involved in the current ministry of ICM. Pray for wisdom and clarity, understanding and generosity from the wider church. Pray also for increased prayerful and financial support for their encouragement and to enable these ministries to begin.
Friday 26 April, Kieron is speaking at a Men's Fellowship meeting in Mourne Presbyterian Church, Kilkeel
Having been just over a year in post, David is finding great purpose and joy in his appointment. He is finding the work incredibly varied, throwing up lots of new demands and challenges. In all these things pray that he will guard his heart and trust first and foremost in the strength and provision of the Lord. Thank God that his wife Honor and his children have settled very well back into life in Dublin, and together they are excited to be part of what God is doing among the church families of ICM as they seek to start new churches to reach new people for the praise of Jesus.
Praise God for the wisdom, unity and gospel priorities he has given to the trustees and pray for continued guidance as they make decisions about the future of the resources ICM has. Ask especially that God will continue to provide not only financially but with the skills and gifts necessary to administer and direct these funds. Give thanks for out-going trustees Michael Last, John McClure and Grant Carroll who served so faithfully over the years. Tim Anderson and Joanna Carroll have been newly appointed, but also ask God to raise up new trustees who have a vision and concern that our work might grow.
We long to see the name of Jesus owned, trusted and treasured by more and more people all across the island, but specifically for the next few years in Dublin. To this end we are prayerfully seeking to evangelise new churches into existence, convinced that local churches, faithful in loving God and loving their neighbours, are the best means to call more and more people to consider the great claims and finished work of Jesus. By pioneering new churches we also want to strengthen the whole church and seek to partner with existing ministries, to connect with those not presently being reached. Pray for God to supply for every faith-prompted purpose and for His name to be glorified above everything and everyone else.
Sunday 19th May – Churches Together Celebration, a joint service of celebration for all those involved in ICM churches and gatherings
Pray for the ICM staff in Dublin and Belfast as they serve together in the work of the gospel; for continued unity and joy in the gospel. Give thanks for the support of administrative staff (Olive Stewart in Dublin and Sally Shaw and Colin Logue in Belfast). Pray that all the staff may be enabled to serve well, for God's glory. Please pray specifically for God's guidance for the ICM apprentices (Sam, Angel, Jacob, Abby) as they enter their final three months and prepare for serving God beyond their time at ICM.
